The Peel board is deeply committed to creating a culture where everyone feels
welcomed and included and is treated with fairness, respect and dignity.
Achieving equity in access and opportunity for students and staff is a priority
for the board and is entrenched in our
Systems Planning for Student Success goals.
Recognizing that the Peel board is one of the most diverse districts in North
America, we have undertaken many initiatives to help create equitable classroom
and school environments. Information about our philosophy and some of our key
initiatives is provided on a comprehensive website:
The Future We
Want.
The website explains the board’s approach to the seven "isms" of oppression –
ableism, ageism, classism, faith as an "ism," heterosexism, racism, sexism – and
outlines the central principles of an inclusive curriculum. Exploring this
website will provide a clear and detailed introduction to the board’s
perspective on equity and the inherent dignity and worth of each student, staff,
parent, and community member.
