The Peel board’s commitment to wellness begins with the
principles.
At the Peel board, we care about the people who work in our organization. We’re
justifiably proud of our commitment to providing a healthy, safe, productive and
equitable work environment. We’re equally committed to
treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
Quality of life
But now it’s time to do more. Recognizing that quality of life issues are
increasingly important to our employees, we’ve developed a
statement of purpose that supports employee health and wellness. We have
also embedded organizational wellness as a key strategy in our
System planning for student success process.
How can the board help staff find time to focus on wellness?
The process is well underway. The board has developed a renewed focus on
aligning, consolidating and coordinating our efforts. We genuinely want to
reduce the number and scope of new initiatives so that our staff can focus their
efforts on building student success.
These efforts begin with our eight
System planning for student success goals and accompanying key strategies.
Each department and school in our system is expected to focus on supporting
these goals and strategies.
Our efforts to reduce workload are reflected in other ways as well:
| • | The board is listening and
acting on input. When we hear a concern or suggestion from staff
about workload, we find ways to take action.
| | • | We want to reduce the volume of
e-mail. People are becoming overwhelmed by a barrage of e-mails.
Through an analysis of e-mail use, benchmarking with other organizations and
a review of effective practices, we have created
new guidelines for e-mail use. These guidelines have reduced the number
of e-mails and attachments. Learn more about managing
e-mail overload.
| | • | We are reducing the number of
new initiatives. All members of the senior administration are
working to align superintendent success plans with board goals and key
strategies. These plans will provide greater focus and consolidation in the
years ahead.
|
These are only a few examples to highlight our commitment to assist staff in
managing their workload. We know our staff is willing to – and do – work hard.
But we want to make sure that we help staff balance work and personal wellness.
By working together, we can make wellness a Peel board success story!
