Stress is a serious threat to your health

Many people underestimate the health risks associated with stress. Prolonged exposure to stress has been linked to many serious health conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and depression.

People who frequently feel stressed tend to make poor lifestyle choices, which also increase their health risks.

A recent study by the Heart and Stroke Foundation reported that:

57% of Canadians frequently felt overwhelmed by stress.
36% of people who felt stressed were smokers.
16% of people who felt stressed ate fast foods three or more times a week.
46% of men would have an alcoholic drink when under stress.
39% of women would watch more TV when under stress.
More than 50% of men and women reported a lack of time for family, friends and leisure activities.
