An allergy is a reaction to a substance that is usually
harmless. These substances, called allergens, can cause a physical reaction if
they are inhaled, swallowed, touched or injected.
If you are exposed to a substance that triggers allergies, it
may cause inflammation and swelling in specific parts of your body, such as your
eyes, nose, lungs or skin.
Some allergens can make asthma symptoms worse because they
irritate and inflame your airways, reducing the air flow to your lungs.
